I Buy!
I Purchase old broken Instruments
I look for those instruments that fall into that odd catagory of old and/or broken, or the cost of repair exceeds the value of the instrument, and although you do not want to throw it out, it collects dust and space, year after year! And! deep in your heart, you know you'll never fix it and it will eventually end up in the trash!
Why? There are a few reasons these type of instruments are of interest to me. The first is, that I can usually find a part or materical that I can eventually, given enough time. As a Youtuber who makes videos of repair, projects and builds, this gives me more material that I can create with, and as a person who cares about those in need, it gives me the opportunity to build and give away instruments that can help ill people and/or help those with financial issues. Perhaps they feel depressed, feel alone and a hobby like music may change that situation for the better. I think you get the picture. Finally, there remains this childlike mind in the old man who is retired now! I enjoy coming up with the safe, yet mad scientist type projects!
So, we both gain a little. Your instrument doesn't end up worthless in a trash fill! And, those who benefit from it on my end , are usually very grateful! A win-win from my perspective!
Do you purchase Collectables or Good Instruments?
Yes and No.
Please remember, I am retired, not rich by any stretch of the imagination, and just trying to survive my aging body and mind. That being said, I do what I have passion for (MUSIC!), so I can live my life as long and as happy as possible and giving back to our community where and when I can!
I am lucky that I am blessed with many great clients who trust me with the expensive instruments and continue to come back to me! So far, I continue to get such steady customers every month. The vast majority of my steady clientele are serious Guitar Collectors or professional working / studio musicans. The remaining are just your everyday wonderful mom and dad of young players or just those who enjoy it as a hobby! So, at least I am making some money for the work I do, Many customers tell me my prices are exceptionally good and on occassion, they're so happy that they tip me 2 or 3 times more than what I charged. That makes me feel happy, because when you see people that are made happy, it expands to your heart! Indeed, goodness and happiness is catching!
The prior has allowed me to expand some, and allow me to offer a small amount of money for purchases. The thought - that an instrument has zero value, doesn't sit well with me. Especially, when you see it change so many lives! It even saves lives!
It could be my videos that people enjoy watching! It could be a project that interest them. They may want to learn how to do something themselves, etc! So! I am looking to purchase tiny investments, that can eventually be used for parts, hardware, materials and/or in videos. I have to be very careful with the little bit of money I do make beyond my daily needs. My investments have to support me in my goals, as already mentioned earlier. Whether that is allowing me more funds to purchase more items, doing more videos, helping those in need, or mad scientist work! They all benefit and they all serve good purposes in my opinion!
As for quality product purchases or collectables. I am always open to listen. Kindly remember, I am not even close to the big investor! LOL I have to find very GREAT deals. As an example: Someone who wants to move, and doesn't want to take stuff with them because the time and cost exceeds their immediate plans and costs. So, I could offer them consignment and a percentage for sale or I can perchase it/them if I can afford it. Same goes with collectables. I have clients that are die-hard collectors and they usually have me do all the documents on their instruments, repair them, and keep them in the best shape possible so they get top dollar when they sell. So, I can help you get your instrument in shape, present it to the collectors I know and help you sell it for a fee/percentage.
The type of collectables I am interested in buying are old ones that need a lot of repairs to make they have any value again, so it is better for someone without the financial resources to sell it or them for some money rather than paying out a tremendous amount for repairs.
Unfortunately, that is how life works sometimes, Not everyone is in the perfect position to make a deal or the timing is not right! Whatever the case may be, I am being 100% honest about what I can afford and what I can't. On the flip side, you know that the instrument will eventually end up with a good home and doing some soul or souls, good!
Line (Messaging App) is the best way to communitcate for me!
